THE CHESTERTOWN ANTIQUES SHOW CELEBRATES 50 YEARS OF SUPPORTING KART IN ITS MISSION

Shows come and go. Fashion and design debut, change and reemerge. A decade passes, a notion becomes passé. Yet amid the constant flux, some things endure, adjusting course to fit the times.

One such example: the Chestertown Antiques Show and Sale which in 2013 celebrates its 50th year. Presented over Thanksgiving weekend, the show helps to fund the work of the Kent Association of Riding Therapy (KART), an agency that uses a multi-faceted program of therapeutic horseback riding and care of the horses to help children and adults with disabilities enhance their physical, emotional and cognitive developmental growth.

With a roster of loyal exhibitors, augmented by new additions reflecting current collecting interests, the show retains its intimate size of approximately 50 vendors displaying a well-balanced representation of genres. In the past two years, since relocating to a larger venue at Washington College in Chestertown, the show has seen an impressive increase in its gate, with strong attendance and sales on each of its three days.

As would be expected with a 50th show, this year will feature a celebratory opening night party along with themed exhibits and presentations offering a retrospective on the past 50 years. “It’s an important milestone in the life of the show, and for KART as well”, Show Chair Renee Bench remarked. “Both have shown they can adapt in an ever changing world and remain strong in their fields, supporting the community and this important program  enriching the lives of citizens of the Eastern Shore..”

The show takes place Thanksgiving weekend: Friday, November 29 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.; Saturday, November 30 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., and Sunday, December 1 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Washington College Lifetime Fitness Center in Chestertown, Maryland. Timing is opportune, as there are many out of town visitors in Chestertown for the weekend, as well as people who enjoy a day trip to the historic town which is less than two hours from Washington DC, Philadelphia, Wilmington and Baltimore. For additional information about the show, contact Show Coordinator Marilyn Klompus at 410-810-4898.
